Zinc rainwater systems

Zinc gives a quiet, self-weathering grey that architects reach for on standing-seam roofs, contemporary extensions and rural buildings where a bright finish would look wrong.

We install zinc half-round and box gutters, downpipes and outlets, coordinated with the roofing package where the roof itself is zinc.

Zinc rainwater goods on a contemporary rural extension

Natural, pre-weathered and pigmented

Natural zinc starts bright and develops its grey patina over the first years. Pre-weathered material arrives at that appearance already, which is usually preferred where the rainwater goods must match a pre-weathered standing-seam roof from day one. Pigmented finishes such as anthracite and graphite extend the range where a darker line is wanted.

  • Natural, pre-weathered and pigmented zinc
  • Half-round and box gutter sections
  • Round and rectangular downpipes
  • Coordination with standing-seam roofing
  • Concealed gutters and outlets
  • Bespoke fabrication where required

Detailing and durability

Zinc needs room to move and it needs the right substrate: it should not be laid on or drain from unseasoned oak, western red cedar or copper, and ventilation behind the material matters where it is concealed. Where the rainwater path crosses materials, we set out the compatibility before anything is ordered.

Properly detailed, zinc has a long service life with essentially no maintenance beyond keeping outlets clear.

Typical projects

Contemporary rural houses, glazed and zinc-clad extensions to period properties, agricultural conversions and architect-led new build across the Cotswolds and surrounding counties — often alongside a zinc or lead roof and a dark powder-coated window package.

In summary

Best suited to
Standing-seam zinc roofs, contemporary extensions, architect-led new build and rural buildings requiring a muted, self-weathering finish.
Key consideration
Zinc requires compatible substrates and adequate movement and ventilation, and should not receive run-off from copper.
For architects and contractors
Send roof details and elevations and we will confirm sections, finish and outlet detailing, with pricing for supply and installation.
